Overnight high winds leave thousands without power across Whatcom County

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — As of 7:30am today, Saturday, November 11th, over 3,500 Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customer addresses in Whatcom County were without power after high winds buffeted the region overnight.

PSE reported nearly 28,000 were impacted across the Puget Sound region as of 7:20am.

Gusts reaching 56mph were recorded after midnight at the Bellingham International Airport.

A weather monitoring station in Ferndale reported a gust of 67mph about 12:40am. According to wind speed reports from multiple monitoring stations, winds appeared to peak shortly after midnight.

While a wind advisory expired at 6am and winds remain calm in the lowlands this morning, a winter storm warning remains in effect through 10pm today due to expected heavy snow and gusting winds in eastern Whatcom County areas above 4,500 feet.
