Fire District 17 levy appears to fail by a single vote

SANDY POINT, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 17’s special election property tax levy to move their main fire station and offices is behind by 1 vote as of a count reported today, Thursday, May 2nd, and the election is expected to be certified tomorrow.

Today’s vote count was reported by the Whatcom County Election Division to be 257 votes in favor and 258 votes against the levy.

WCFD17 Fire Chief Jim Petrie told Whatcom News they do not plan to ask for a recount but instead will attempt to get the levy passed on the August Primary Election ballot.

WCFD17 serves Sandy Point Shores, Sandy Point Heights, Neptune Heights, Neptune Beach and western portions of the Lummi Indian Reservation.
