Beginning later today and continuing over the next few days, the mountains and lowlands are expected to get heavy rain. As a result, neighbors are advised to keep an eye on the Nooksack River level at Ferndale forecast.
The current river level forecast expects the Nooksack River to crest around 17.5 feet in the early morning hours Thursday. While the official flood stage is 19 feet, it is not unusual for minor flooding to occur after the river rises beyond 15 feet.
Minor flooding that can impact drivers and others typically includes,
- Water over the roadway on Ferndale Road north of Marine Drive and also north of Slater Road
- Water over the roadway at the corner of Barrett and Paradise Roads
- Flooding of the WDFW parking lot on Marine Drive
- Water over the roadway at corner of Marine Drive south of Country Lane
River level forecasts can change frequently closer to expected events. Advisories and updated information will be posted on Discover Ferndale as they become available.
Surface water flooding is also a concern when there is a lot of lowland rain in a short amount of time. Current forecasts expect significant rainfall beginning later today through Thursday. The potential exists for local creeks to overflow and standing water in roadways to become a hazard for drivers in some places. Check neighborhood storm drains and keep them clear of debris to help minimize the potential for such hazards.
