Southwest Airlines to pull out of Bellingham, 3 other underperforming markets

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Officials with Dallas, Texas-based Southwest Airlines announced today, Thursday, April 25th, they will cease operations at Bellingham International Airport on August 4th.

The announcement was made in a press release reporting 1st quarter 2024 financial results. Key indicators included a net loss of $231 million in spite of record first quarter operating revenues of $6.3 billion.

The decision to cease operations in Bellingham, Cozumel, Houston and Syracuse, cited the 4 as underperforming markets.

Other significant operating decisions announced include reducing the number of new Boeing 737s on order by about half and increasing the number of planned airplane retirements by about a third.

Southwest Airlines began flights out of Bellingham International Airport in November of 2021.
