WSP confirms suspect wanted in 2016 fatal Pole Road crash is deceased

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, investigators confirmed Luciano Ailon-Garcia is deceased in Guatemala.

Ailon-Garcia was wanted for vehicular homicide, hit-and-run death, and vehicular assault following a vehicle collision on August 28, 2016, according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Ailon-Garcia was driving a vehicle eastbound on Pole Road about 5am when the vehicle failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle traveled off the roadway, vaulted about 80 feet, and came to rest in a raspberry field.

A passenger died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol. A second passenger sustained rib fractures. Ailon-Garcia fled the scene on foot.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a no-bail warrant was issued for Ailon-Garcia on March 21, 2017. He subsequently fled to Guatemala.

The Washington State Patrol is updating its Most Wanted list following the confirmation of his death.
