Recent Ferndale crashes result in 2 dead

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) provided Whatcom News with an update to the Sunday, June 21, 2026, crash on W Laurel Road and details regarding another crash yesterday, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, on Slater Road.

First responders were dispatched to the 900 block of W Laurel Road on June 21, 2026, about 8:50am due to report of a truck versus sedan crash with injuries. Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Ben Russell told Whatcom News they had 2 critical patients and 2 that were treated and released at the scene. One of the critical patients was airlifted and the other transported by a medic unit to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

WCSO Public Information Officer Deb Slater told Whatcom News via email, “One of the drivers was airlifted to Harborview and later succumbed to their injuries.” She added, “Deputies found no criminal nature to the collision.”

An incident on Slater Road yesterday resulted in the death of a motorcyclist according to Slater.

On June 23, around 6:00 pm, deputies responded to a motorcycle vs passenger truck collision at the intersection of Elder Rd and Slater Rd. The motorcyclist was travelling westbound on Slater Rd at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck was heading east on Slater Rd, turning into the gas station at that intersection. The driver noticed the motorcycle, but it was a long way off. The motorcycle struck the truck. The motorcyclist died at the scene.
