WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A Bellingham Police Department (BPD) patrol officer reported by radio about 1:10am on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, that he was attempting to pull over a car doing approximately 90mph northbound on I-5 in the area of the Meridian Street interchange.
The encounter evolved into a pursuit continuing northbound on I-5 with the Toyota Camry reaching speeds exceeding 110mph.
Additional law enforcement agencies assisted with the pursuit as it continued through Ferndale, Custer and Blaine.
The Toyota crashed before reaching the US-Canada Peace Arch border crossing. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene about 1:20am. The BPD officer reported having the driver in custody.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham via a medic unit.
The Blaine Police Department issued a statement saying, “The driver was not able to navigate a curve on the freeway at MP 276 and crashed into a guardrail at approximately 110 MPH.”
A 25-year-old man was booked by BPD about 5am into the Whatcom County Jail charged with felony driving under the influence (DUI) and attempting to elude a police vehicle.
