SUMAS, Wash. — A 48-year-old Sumas man died in a single-vehicle crash while northbound on Reese Hill Road (SR547) on September 18, 2026, according to a press memo from Washington State Patrol (WSP).
First responders were dispatched to to the scene about 11pm.
According to WSP, a black 2006 Ford Expedition traveling northbound left the roadway to the right and struck a tree. The vehicle came to rest off the roadway without blocking traffic.
The driver was declared deceased at the scene. He was determined to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Reese Hill Road was closed in both directions until about 3am according to Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The cause of the crash was listed as a medical episode. Drugs or alcohol were determined to have not been involved.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene.
