Northbound lanes of I-5 blocked south of Bellingham late Wednesday

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-5 in the area of the N Lake Samish Drive interchange about 7:45pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2026, due to reports of a rollover crash.

Initial reports from the scene were that a vehicle was in the median north of the interchange.

About 8pm, Washington State Patrol announced this is a serious injury crash and both lanes of I-5 were closed. There was no estimate for reopening the roadway and alternate routes were recommended.

Update 9:45pm – Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported the right lane had been reopened.

Update 11:30pm – WSDOT reported the both lanes had been reopened.
