BELLINGHAM, Wash. —Port of Bellingham (Port) announced an emergency response exercise is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, beginning at about 10am at Bellingham International Airport (BLI).
The event is an emergency exercise simulating an aircraft incident, according to Port of Bellingham. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires certificated airports to conduct the drill every 3 years to test the Airport Emergency Plan, which includes emergency communication, medical response, and coordination with airport, city, county, and regional partners. The exercise allows BLI and mutual aid partners to train in a controlled setting and demonstrate compliance with federal aviation safety requirements.
According to the Port, participating agencies and organizations include the following.
- Volunteer Mobilization Center
- Bellingham Fire Department
- Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office
- Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management
- Bellingham Aviation Services
- Holiday Inn
- American Red Cross
- Whatcom County Community Emergency Response Team
- Whatcom Transportation Authority
- Bellingham Police Department
- PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center
- Allegiant Airlines
