National Weather Service forecasters in the Seattle office have issued a Winter Weather Advisory to today that forewarns of new snow accumulations in the lowlands today.

The advisory will be in effect from noon through 6pm today and says up to 3 inches of new snow accumulation is expected in the lowlands of western Whatcom County, including Ferndale. The deepest accumulation is expected away from the water and closer to the Canadian border.

Nearby Environment Canada forecasts differ in they are expecting morning snow and a snow and rain mix by the afternoon with new snow accumulation up to 2 inches.

The high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid- to low-30s today around the Ferndale area. Winds are expected to pick up a little during the late afternoon.

A chance of snow will remain this evening, overnight and through to late Wednesday afternoon when it is then expected to become clear and sunny and high temperatures could reach the 40s.
