The current estimate for when the replacement ferry would begin regular service is 2027.
Updated 9:30am - Service was being restored.
Service is currently being provided by a passenger-only ferry while the Whatcom Chief undergoes annual drydock maintenance.
Large outdoor burn piles are not going to be allowed during this time and written permits are postponed.
Past years saw the 2 to 3 week dry dock scheduled in the fall.
Mechanics were investigating a power outage at 1 of the docks.
UPDATE 9:10am - Officials announced ferry service has resumed.
Passenger-only service ends about 10am so dock work can be done to bring the Whatcom Chief back into service.
