UPDATED: Lummi Island ferry service suspended due to mechanical issues

LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. —Officials with Whatcom County Ferry Division announced today, Thursday, May 12th, that ferry service was being temporarily suspended.

The 7:30pm announcement cited a mechanical issue at the Lummi Island dock.

Service is currently being provided by a passenger-only ferry while the Whatcom Chief is undergoing annual drydock maintenance.

No estimate for resuming service was given at the time.

Update 11:30am: Ferry officials announced they had completed the repairs on the Lummi Island dock and ferry service had resumed. They added that current high winds may affect the schedule through mid-afternoon.
