Whatcom County Fire District 7 firefighters were dispatched at 10:50am to a report of a residential fire in the 5800 block of Birch Drive.
Upon arriving they found a chimney fire with a small amount of smoke escaping from the roof crest gable and some places around the edge of the roof.
Firefighters were seen on the roof using heat sensors to determine the extent of the fire, if any, beyond the chimney. They were able to knock down the fire using portable extinguishers.
Fire Chief Larry Hoffman said the fire had not had the chance to spread.
