According to the WSP, Griffith was crossing the road when he was struck by a northbound 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Neither drugs nor alcohol were considered to be involved in the collision.

WSP Trooper Heather Axtman told My Ferndale News the incident was under investigation but there was no initial indications of a crime having been committed.

Next of kin notification was done by WSP.

Update (12/9/20): Axtman said it was determined Griffith was walking to his mailbox at the time of the collision and the driver of the pickup did not see him due to heavy rain and the lack of street lights.
