FERNDALE, Wash. — Officials with the Ferndale School Police (FPD) say they arrested a Ferndale High School (FHS) student yesterday, September 25th, after the student was reported to have made “a shooting threat.”
According to a FPD press release, FHS administrators alerted the police to the threat after receiving a report from another student at approximately 2:30pm. Staff members also reported concerning behavior and hearing similar statements from the suspect.
The 16-year-old male was arrested at his home about 6:45pm according to the press release. According to Ferndale City staff he was charged under suspicion of making threats to bomb or injure property.

Click for more informationThe press release went on to say the student had been previously arrested for similar threats earlier this year and FPD believed this incident to be a credible and specific threat. According to city staff, the student was arrested in August by Ferndale Police and was charged then under suspicion of the same crime as yesterday.
“Thanks to the quick work by our officers and the diligence of the Ferndale School District staff, we were able to address this quickly and without incident,” Police Chief Turner is quoted as saying in the press release. “Whether you are a student or a member of the public, if you see something that concerns you, please let us or school staff know. Together, we can act to prevent the worst from happening.”
Ferndale School District officials say an email went out to families of FHS students last night advising them of the reported threat and the arrest. They also noted the student is now subject to an emergency expulsion from FHS.
