Tonight’s city council meeting had a few “meaty” items on the agenda and here is how they played out during the meeting.
- Transpo Group presented their findings after inventorying and developing options for utilizing as-is, expanding or replacing the current traffic signal hardware. This will go back to the Public Works and Utilities Committee for further discussion.
- City staff asked for permission to spend up to $15,000 for Transpo Group’s review of a draft Interchange Justification Report (IJR) documents detailing recommendations for spending approximately $20 million in state funding to improve the I-5 Slater Road interchange. Permission was granted by unanimous vote.
- Public Works Department’s request for hiring a full time Capital Project Inspector was approved by unanimous vote.
- Council considered imposing an emergency moratorium on accepting applications for a second marijuana retail store after receiving emails from “3 businessmen” requesting they reconsider their February decision. Councilmember Keith Olson moved that the emergency moratorium be approved contingent on voters being able to vote on an advisory ballot measure that would indicate to council whether the second store should be approved or not. The motion failed by a vote of 3 to 4 (the same votes by which the ordinance permitting the second store passed in February).
