How would you vote on upcoming City Council agenda item(s)?

FERNDALE, Wash. — The members of the Ferndale City Council are scheduled to meet Tuesday, February 16th, at 5pm via online videoconference for a regular meeting of the whole council.

There are 2 items on the agenda for discussion by the council along with some items on the consent agenda that are expected to be approved without discussion. Consent agenda items include

  • Approval of changes to the Municipal Code regarding curbside garbage pickup service
  • Declare 2 2008 Ford Crown Victoria vehicles and an iPhone as surplus equipment

Councilmembers will discuss and possibly vote on increasing the Mayor’s monthly 2021 salary from $1,889 to $2,650 per month, an increase of 40%, retroactive to January 1. City Administrator Jori Burnett stated in a letter to the councilmembers, “the current mayoral salary is significantly less than many peer cities, and does not reflect the fact that the last several mayors have all understood that the position is effectively a full-time position.”

The same discussion would also include guaranteeing councilmembers’ and the mayor’s salaries increase by 3% each year. Councilmembers cannot approve salary increases during their current terms so their increases will begin after the current terms end.

The remainder of the meeting agenda is made up of presentations requiring no decisions.

Regular City Council meetings are being held using an online video conference format in conformance with the state’s COVID-19 physical distancing health safety mandate.

Anyone wanting to watch the online meeting live can click this link just prior to or during the meeting. Nothing needs to be installed since attendees can choose to “watch on the web” via their browser and “join” the video conference anonymously. Attendees’ video and audio inputs will be disabled to prevent meeting disruptions while attendees will still be able to view and hear the meeting participants.

City Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month (or on the following Tuesday in event of a national holiday) and typically (when not held online) in Council Chambers at the City Hall Annex at 5694 2nd Avenue.
