Maleng said firefighters had been out at the same address in 2019 for a fire that destroyed the same residence. He was told the owner had just finished rebuilding.

Maleng said WCFD16 firefighters were assisted by firefighters from WCFD1 and WCFD14.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
