Deming fire destroys house just rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 2019

DEMING, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 5:35pm today, December 24th, due to a report of a residential fire in the 3200 block of Hillside Road in Deming.

Responding personnel reported it was snowing heavily in the area and they arrived to find a 2-story wood frame residential structure fully on fire.

Whatcom County Fire District 16 (WCFD16) Fire Chief Hank Maleng said no one was in the residence at the time of the fire but the occupants were displaced by the fire. They will be staying with family tonight and Maleng contacted Red Cross to coordinate assistance for them tomorrow.

Maleng said firefighters had been out at the same address in 2019 for a fire that destroyed the same residence. He was told the owner had just finished rebuilding.

Maleng said WCFD16 firefighters were assisted by firefighters from WCFD1 and WCFD14.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
