Guide Meridian closed after car hits pole, power lines on the road

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched north of the intersection of Guide Meridian and Kelly Road about 7:30am on Sunday, May 10, 2026, due to report of a single vehicle crash involving a pole.

Initial reports were that a vehicle had struck a power pole about 10-feet off the road and power lines had fallen across the road.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the crash scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center via ambulance.

Southbound traffic was being redirected at Smith Road and northbound traffic was being redirected at Kelly Road.

Puget Sound Energy reported a power outage in the area was first reported at 7:32am and it impacted 1 customer address.

UPDATE 8:20am: Puget Sound Energy crew remove the line on the road and traffic was restored through the area.
