MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) investigators recently served a warrant in the 9000 block of Lacie Lane in Maple Falls, according to a MVPD press release. The warrant was part of an investigation into a June 11, 2026, homicide in Mount Vernon.
According to the MVPD press release, a 17-year-old Mount Vernon male and a 20-year-old Burlington female were arrested on charges “related to their involvement in the homicide.” A 26-year-old Mount Vernon male was also arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Investigators recovered a firearm with an obliterated serial number that is not believed to have been used in the homicide, according to MVPD. The Whatcom County sheriff’s office and Bellingham police department SWAT teams and crisis negotiators assisted in the operation.
According to Skagit County Superior Court records, the 20-year-old faces a felony charge of 1st-degree rendering criminal assistance and her bail has been set at $100,000. The 26-year-old faces a felony charge of unlawful possession of firearms and his bail has also been set at $100,000.
The homicide incident occurred on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at about 5:30pm when MVPD officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 1300 block of South 2nd Street in Mount Vernon. MVPD investigators believe an altercation occurred between 2 groups, resulting in multiple shots fired. A 23-year-old male died at the scene from gunfire despite lifesaving efforts by MVPD and Mount Vernon Fire Department.
As a result of the investigation into the shooting, 26-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested by MVPD on June 16, 2026, and faces felony charges of 1st-degree premeditated murder, 2nd-degree assault with a deadly weapon and drive-by shooting. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.
At the time of the incident, he was out of custody after posting a $20,000 bond while awaiting trial for drive-by shooting (the incident occurred in 2023), felony possession of a stolen firearm and gross misdemeanor charges of carrying dangerous weapons and knowingly possessing controlled substances without a prescription. Following his recent arrest, the bail for these charges has been raise to $250,000.
