WSP traffic stop leads to DUI arrest and discovery of about 5 ounces of fentanyl powder

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — On June 4, 2026, officials with the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported members of their North Region (Whatcom and Skagit Counties) Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team (ADAT) recovered about 5 ounces of fentanyl powder following a traffic stop.

According to the WSP, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle traveling 88mph through a 50mph construction zone. The vehicle was reported to have previously been going 115mph. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and, with assistance from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, approximately 5 ounces of fentanyl powder was located.
