Extreme low tides at Whatcom County beaches expected Monday and Tuesday

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — According to a public notice from the Whatcom County Public Works Department, low tide conditions may alter operations for the Whatcom Chief ferry on June 15, 2026, and June 16, 2026.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tide predictions for Village Point on Lummi Island show low water levels occurring around midday on both dates.

  • On June 15, 2026, the forecasted low tide reaches -4.1 feet at about 11:50am.
  • On June 16, 2026, the forecasted low tide reaches -4.0 feet at about 12:35pm.

Potential disruptions to the ferry schedule are expected to be limited to sailings surrounding those low water intervals.

According to the Whatcom County Public Works Department, the 11:20am, 11:40am, and 12:00pm sailings on June 15, 2026, may be canceled on short notice. On June 16, 2026, the 12:00pm and 1:00pm sailings may be affected.

No cancellations have been confirmed by the department. Environmental conditions may require temporary service suspensions during these specific midday periods. Ferry riders are advised to plan travel schedules accordingly and allow extra time for travel.
