E Badger Road (SR546) and Benson Road roundabout construction scheduled to begin June 18th

LYNDEN, Wash. — According to a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) press release, construction of a compact roundabout at the E Badger Road (SR546) and Benson Road intersection north of Lynden begins June 18, 2026. The contractor for the project is Colacurcio Brothers Inc.

The intersection will close to all traffic from June 21, 2026, through June 27, 2026, according to the WSDOT. Access to residences and area medical facilities will remain open. Passenger vehicles will detour via Main Street, Depot Road, and Pangborn Road. Freight traffic will detour via Guide Meridian (SR539), E Pole Road (SR544), and Nooksack Road (SR9) during the 6-day closure.

During the closure, crews will remove the existing intersection, prepare the area, construct curbs and islands, pave, and install signs and temporary pavement markings, according to the WSDOT. Crews will return in July 2026 to install permanent striping. Up to 4 daytime, single-lane closures of E Badger Road with flaggers alternating traffic will also occur during the project, during which Benson Road traffic will detour using Depot Road.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the project is expected to be completed in mid-July 2026. Approximately 11,000 vehicles used the E Badger Road corridor per day in 2025.
