WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters with the National Weather Service Seattle office have upgraded an earlier winter storm watch to a warning for the central and northern Cascades, including the mountains and valleys in eastern Whatcom and Skagit Counties due to expected heavy snow.
The warning period is between 10am on Tuesday, October 24th, through 5pm on Wednesday, October 25th. The warning statement says to expect total snow accumulations of 6 to 15 inches above 3,000 feet and 12 to 24 inches above 5,000 feet.
In anticipation of this first significant mountain snowfall, officials with the Washington Department of Transportation today closed the road to Artist Point for the season.
