Officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced today, June 14, 2026, that they reopened the North Cascades Highway (SR20) earlier today.
WSDOT crews have spent the prior several weeks clearing the road of snow and avalanche debris while performing pavement and guardrail repairs as well as avalanche control. This year’s opening was delayed further due to significant winter storm damage and a spring rockslide.
SR 20/North Cascades Hwy is fully opened!!! We finished repairs early and reopened the scenic seasonal highway Sunday, June 14.
