The National Weather Service Seattle office has issued a Wind Advisory for today.
The advisory is in effect until 3pm. South to southwest sustained winds of 20 to 35mph with gusts to 50mph are expected.
Winds are expected to increase this morning and then peak in the early afternoon.
Winds this strong can down tree limbs and cause local power outages.
A weather station near Ferndale High School recorded at least two instances of wind gusts over 50mph before 9am. The strongest, recorded at 56mph, occurred about 7:15am.
