Volunteers were up early this morning, June 14th, installing American flags down Main Street and 2nd Avenue in recognition of Flag Day.
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
Ferndale Kiwanis members line Main Street with approximately 150 American flags each federal holiday. They are assisted by Whatcom Fire District 7 Station 41 personnel who put up flags along 2nd Avenue. Volunteers put the flags out early in the morning and remove them in the late afternoon.
Many thanks to the Kiwanis, WFD7 and other volunteers that put all those gorgeous flags along Main Street this morning. They serve as a reminder of the history of the United States as a successful constitutional republic.
