FERNDALE, Wash. — Last night’s Ferndale City Council regular meeting featured a presentation by Martin Chaw with the FCS Group regarding water and sewer billing adjustments options for 2020 and beyond.
Presentation slides from last night’s meeting.
FCS Group presented two options for the council to consider, NO ACTION was taken during this meeting. Both options reflect an estimated 15-18% increase in Water and Sewer bills for the average customer. For example, using the average water, sewer and stormwater bi-monthly billing of $199.30, the two proposals would result in an increase to $236.26 or $228.89. Both options utilize a base charge plus 4 levels of increasing volume charges.
FCS Group’s report maintains that these increases will cover costs, treat all customers equitably and abide by governing state law. In general, the law requires each connection be charged a proportionate share of the cost of the system capacity required to serve it.
No action was taken as a result of the presentation, city staff will review the information presented and discuss a rate ordinance to present to the council at a future meeting.
Also during last night’s meeting, the Council selected from among themselves members to serve on the Catalyst Review Committee. Council members Taylor, Hansen, and Xczar were selected to join Planning Commissioner Greg Crim and EAGLE Board Commissioner Sean Hegstead on the Committee.
