Discover Ferndale reported yesterday about an incident that resulted in crime scene tape around a property. The Sheriff’s Office has now released details about what happened.
According to a media release sent out this morning by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office,
911 received a call about 8:55am yesterday from 1064 Piper Road. The caller reported a male at the location had stabbed himself and she was attempting to render aid. When deputies arrived, they found Alberto Mora-Morales, age 26, lying on the living room floor with a stab wound to the left side of his neck. Paramedics arrived soon after and determined the victim was deceased.
The woman who had called 911 was identified as Jessica Inda, age 22. Inda and her 5-year old daughter were the only other people in the residence at the time of the incident. When asked what had happened, Inda told law enforcement she had been fighting with the victim but did not know how he was stabbed.
According to the release,
A short time later INDA asked the Deputy if she could tell them the truth, and admitted that she had actually stabbed the victim and also provided the location of the knife used which she had hidden in the residence. INDA gave a brief statement and then declined further interviews and requested an attorney. The knife used was recovered, found hidden in a cabinet in the laundry room, as described by the suspect.
The 5-year old female in the home was identified as Inda and Mora-Morales daughter.
Inda was booked yesterday afternoon into the Whatcom County Jail on one count of 2nd degree murder. She remained in custody as of this morning. The investigation continues and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
UPDATE 10/4/16
Inda is reported to be out of custody after having posting a $100,000 bond.
