Smoke from fire on Galbraith Mountain results in calls to 911

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the area of Galbraith Mountain about 5:30am on Tuesday, July 18th, due to reports of smoke in the area.

South Whatcom Fire Authority (SWFA) said about 8:30am they had responded and located a fire “on the Arts Trail off the Pipeline Road.”

SWFA said the approximately 2-acre fire is within Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ jurisdiction but SWFA would be providing water support. “There are no structures threatened or evacuations in place at this time. Smoke will be visible for a large part of the day and potentially into tomorrow.”

About 9:30am, What-Comm 911 acknowledged receiving reports of a fire on Galbraith Mountain and posted the following photo.

What-Comm 911 asked citizens not to call 911 regarding the visible smoke unless directly impacted.
