Semi-truck and trailer crash closes southbound lane of I-5

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A semi-truck and trailer crash near the Bow Hill rest area on I-5 in Skagit County this morning, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, caused a miles long traffic backup extending to the Lake Samish area.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) first reported the incident about 3:40am and that the right lane was blocked.

As of 7:50am, the right lane remained blocked, and the traffic backup extended about 5 miles. No estimate for reopening the lane was available. No word about the condition of the driver.
