LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division officials reported about 8:50am on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, that ferry service remained suspended. The Whatcom Chief had been taken out of service since about 3:25pm on Monday, May 18, 2026.
A contractor is expected on site shortly to assess the situation. No estimated return-to-service timeline is available at this time.

Officials initially reported the vehicle ferry service was suspended Monday at Gooseberry Point due to a dock equipment issue.
About 7pm on Monday, officials announced that ferry service remained suspended and there was no estimated timeline for restoring service.
The next update from officials is expected today, Tuesday, by 2pm.
