Ferry officials announced the Whatcom Chief repairs have been completed and ferry service has been restored.
Officials say they are hoping to resume service by noon as the problem has been identified and repair is underway.
Officials said the parts needed to make repairs are believed to be on hand and have made a 2-hour estimate to make the repairs. Unknown if repairs are already underway.

Whatcom County Ferry Division officials announced this morning the Whatcom Chief has been taken out of service. As a result, ferry service between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island has been temporarily suspended.
According to officials the ferry “is experiencing a mechanical issue related to one of the rudders.”
No estimate has been given for when service may be restored.

Electrical problems at the Gooseberry Dock have plagued ferry operations between February and April. The last time a malfunction with a rudder impacted service was last December.
