UPDATE 2:30pm
Ferndale Road has been reopened to through traffic but Marine Drive remains closed west of Ferndale Road.
Original Story
The good news is the Nooksack River level forecast in Ferndale is for the river to crest about a foot lower than initially expected and to begin receding right away instead of over 36 hours.
The river level has climbed past the 16-foot mark and is expected to crest before noon at around 16.5-feet.
The bad news is several roads have been closed as a result of river flooding. They include:
- Marine Drive between Rural Avenue and Lummi Shore Drive/Road
- Ferndale Road south of Rayhorst Road
- Barrett and Paradise Roads north of the Super 8 Motel and west of Neevel Road
Water and debris are over the roadway on Ferndale Road (north of Slater Road) and W Smith Road (west of LaBounty Drive).
Slater Road was not showing signs of water over the roadway as of 7am this morning.
