Original Story
Ferndale Police and Whatcom County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a robbery of the Ferndale Key Bank branch today, December 10th, about 2:40pm.
According to radio dispatches, an employee of the bank reported to have received a phone call from a person claiming to be outside the branch aiming a weapon at the employee. The employee said the person was able to describe things inside the branch to prove they were watching. The person on the phone, according to the employee, gave instructions to put money in a box, take it to a location on Hovander Road and leave it there. The employee told police that is what they did before calling 911.
Law enforcement officers were able to locate the drop-off location. Law enforcement vehicles could be seen moving quickly from multiple locations around Ferndale as the initial response and investigation were carried out.
Ferndale Police Lieutenant Bill Hatchett told Discover Ferndale that while this remains a local investigation the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assisting with additional manpower.
This is an ongoing investigation and Discover Ferndale will provide more information as it becomes available.
