Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) has scheduled a community meeting for Thursday to discuss and take comments regarding a proposed new bus route across the north county. The purpose of the meeting is to get community feedback on a proposed route connecting north county cities and its schedule.

A WTA-provided map (below) shows the route, named Route 65, leaving WTA’s Ferndale Station and proceeding north on I-5 to Birch Bay Square. It then heads east along Birch Bay-Lynden Road to WTA’s Lynden Station and continues east to Everson and Nooksack. Upon reaching Nooksack, the bus would follow the same route as it returns to WTA’s Ferndale Station.

The proposed new service would run on weekdays and be conducted as a two-year pilot project funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation. WTA said they pursued grant funding to respond to the demand for service connecting communities in Northern Whatcom County. Currently service between these communities requires a transfer in Bellingham.

The community meeting is set for Thursday, May 25th, at 5:30pm at the Lynden Library.
