Ferndale Police responded to a home in the Griffintown Park neighborhood after 7am this morning after 911 operators received a call of a burglary in progress.
According to radio transmissions between the officers at the scene, a perimeter was established around the neighborhood while police determined no one besides the resident was in the home. A search of the area using a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit (police dog) was then begun. The dog led officers into nearby VanderYacht Park but did not locate any suspects.
According to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Bill Hatchett, a suspect broke into the residence but quickly left as they realized someone was home. The victim did not see the suspect but heard them inside the house and as they left the house. Nothing is known to have been taken from the residence.
