BURLINGTON, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to a report of a hit and run crash on SR20 between Anacortes and Burlington about 4pm on Sunday, September 22nd.

According to the WSP, the crash involved a car and a motorcycle, each with 1 occupant. The initial investigation shows the 2 vehicles were stopped eastbound on SR20 at the traffic light at Best Road and got into a physical altercation.

Both then proceeded eastbound and the car struck the motorcycle before reaching Avon Allen Road.

The motorcycle, a 2020 Harley-Davidson, came to rest on the right shoulder and the motorcyclist ended up on the ground blocking both lanes. The car, a MINI Cooper hatchback, fled.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 37-year-old man from Calgary, Alberta, was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital. He had been wearing a helmet.

Eastbound lanes of SR20 were closed through the area for about 3 hours as a result of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation and the WSP is seeking information regarding the identity of the driver of the car involved.

Sunday was date of the annual Oyster Run, an event held in Anacortes that is deemed, “The largest motorcycle run in the Pacific Northwest.” Organizers say the event attracts 10,000 to 20,000 motorcycles.
