Nearby: Fatal motorcycle crash on Chuckanut Drive

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched after 2pm on Sunday, June 23rd, to the intersection of Sunset Road and Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County due to a report of a vehicle versus motorcycle crash.

According to a Washington State Patrol press memo, a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle ridden by a 57-year-old Maple Ridge, BC, man was southbound on Chuckanut Drive and a 2016 Honda CR-v driven by a 70-year-old Bow woman was northbound when the Honda turned left and struck the motorcycle.

Failure to yield the right-of-way was cited as the cause of the crash.

Life Flight was dispatched to the scene before the motorcyclist was deemed deceased at the scene.

Both lanes of Chuckanut Driver were closed until about 5pm following the crash according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

This crash followed another fatality motorcycle crash on Chuckanut Drive the day prior. In that crash, the motorcyclist was determined to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
