Motorcyclist transported to hospital after Main Street crash

My Ferndale News file photo

An adult male riding a motorcycle crashed while trying to avoid a car that had pulled out in front of him on Main Street at Hovander Road about 6:45pm yesterday, March 19th.

Ferndale Police Sergeant Travis Card said in an email that a Hyundai was making a left turn from westbound Main Street to Hovander Road. The Hyundai driver failed to see a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Main Street and pulled out in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle swerved to avoid a collision and in doing so laid the motorcycle on its side. No collision between the vehicles occurred.

According to radio transmissions, when aid crews from Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) arrived, the motorcycle rider was walking around helping clear debris from the road although limping. WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the motorcycle rider was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for precautionary reasons.

The driver of the Hyundai said the sun interfered with his vision according to Card. He was provided a verbal warning for failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. The motorcycle sustained minor damage.
