BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Jacob Matthew Saville, age 37 and of Bellingham, pled guilty to a felony charge of vehicular homicide while under the influence and was sentenced on May 7th to serve 6.5 years in prison with credit for time served while awaiting trial.
According to Whatcom County Superior Court documents, Saville had no prior convictions and standard sentencing guidelines were from 6.5 to 8.5 years in prison. He will also be in community custody for 18 months after being released from prison.
The sentencing document requires Saville make restitution to the City of Bellingham in the amount of over $24,000.
The charge stemmed from a crash in the 1600 block of Lakeway Drive on September 10, 2022. Bellingham Police Department’s preliminary investigation showed that Saville drove a Ford F150 off the roadway, fatally struck a pedestrian and knocked over a light pole. A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. It was believed Saville was under the influence at the time of the crash.
