7.8M earthquake in Philippines raises tsunami concerns for US Pacific coast

The US National Tsunami Warning Center issued a final statement about 5:15pm on Sunday, June 7, 2026, regarding tsunami concerns for US Pacific Coast locations following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 4:40pm (Pacific Daylight Time) in Mindanao, Philippine Islands.

The statement said that while there is no tsunami danger for the US West Coast, British Columbia or Alaska, some areas may experience non-damaging sea level changes.

A final statement regarding tsunami risks to Hawaii said that while a tsunami threat exists for parts of the Pacific located close to the earthquake epicenter, there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
