FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police say they were called to the Orca Inn Suites on Barrett Avenue about 5am Wednesday, November 4th due to a report of a man kicking the door of a room occupied by a woman he was arguing with. The subject was reportedly seen running across the parking lot and hiding prior to the police officers’ arrival according to an email from City of Ferndale Communications Officer Riley Sweeney.
When police officers arrived, they found the suspect hiding behind a tree. Officers identified themselves and ordered the suspect to come out of his hiding spot. Instead, the suspect fled. Deputies with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office joined Ferndale Police in searching the nearby area and the building for the suspect.
The suspect was eventually located hiding in a laundry room inside the hotel. Sweeney said when ordered to put his hands behind his back so he could be taken into custody, the suspect again failed to comply so officers had to use force to take him into custody.
The suspect, identified by jail records as 28-year-old Cody Michael Braam, was known to officers from previous domestic disputes and no-contact order violation calls involving him according to Sweeney. Officers on scene knew there was a current court-ordered domestic violence no-contact protection order which prohibited Braam from being at the Orca Inn Suites. He had also been previously trespassed from the Orca Inn Suites by the Ferndale Police Department.

Click for more informationAccording to jail records, Ferndale Police booked Braam into the Whatcom County Jail charged with suspicion of violating of a domestic violence no-contact court order, criminal trespass and obstructing a police officer.
As of this morning, November 5th, Braam remained in custody according to jail records.
Between 2014 and 2019, Braam has been found or pled guilty in Whatcom County Superior Court to felony charges of criminal impersonation, theft, forgery and burglary.
