House fire to provide firefighter training

Update 3/12/16 4pm: Due to the high winds expected tomorrow, the District has postponed this live fire training. It has been tentatively rescheduled for Friday, March 18th.


Original Storyfire command stock pic 350xA step in preparing for the business park planned at 6407 Portal Way is the demolition of a house on the property. According to the city, the house has been donated to Whatcom County Fire Protection District 7 so it can be used for training.

The plan, according to the city, is for firefighters to conduct smoke and rescue drills through the day on Saturday, March 12th. Then on Sunday a controlled burn of the house will begin with small room fires about 9am and a full building fire beginning about 1pm. This will enable firefighters to test equipment and continue with training. It is expected the burn on Sunday will continue until around 4pm.
