BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) say the intersection of Hannegan Road and E Smith Road is expected to reopen by the end of the workday tomorrow, Wednesday, August 7th.
UPDATE 8/7/24 at 9am: WCPW officials announce, “The reconstructed intersection at E. Smith Road and Hannegan Road is now open.”
The intersection has been closed since July 8th so that work to build a multilane roundabout could be done.
Demobilization activities and general site clean-up will occur on Thursday, August 8. No traffic delays are expected as a result of this work.
Drivers should be aware that the intersection has significantly transformed from a signalized intersection to a multi-lane roundabout. Please slow down and use caution while traveling through the intersection for the first time. Drivers should expect the roundabout to be similar to those on the Guide Meridian.
After Thursday, no work is anticipated on-site for the remainder of August. Crews will return in September to install the lights and hydroseed the project site.
