FERNDALE, Wash. — Temperatures are expected to begin plummeting later this week and on Sunday, January 24th, this frigid air is expected to collide with the first of 2 wet systems resulting in the potential for lowland snow.
National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters in the Seattle office said this morning, January 20th, a weak system is expected to bring some showers to western Washington tomorrow. Dry and colder weather is then expected Friday and continuing into Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s Saturday and stay in the mid-30s through Monday.
A slightly stronger, wetter system is expected to arrive late Saturday night lasting into Monday with low snow levels, especially in western Whatcom County due to frigid northeast winds. Snowfall is currently forecast to begin in the early hours Sunday morning.
NWS forecasters currently do not expect this to be a significant snow event.
Cold northerly flow is expected to persist into next week maintaining below normal temperatures according to NWS forecasters. So, when another system reaches western Washington Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday, there will again be the possibility of more lowland snow.
Forecasters, again, say they do not currently expect this to be a major snow event.
