Flames reported on building rooftop was not what firefighters found

Friday evening, as the sun was setting, What-Comm 9-1-1 received a call of flames visible atop a Ferndale downtown building.

Ferndale Police officers and Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters immediately responded to 2013 Main Street, a currently vacant building. A police officer was first to arrive and reported there was no sign of smoke or fire. WCFD7 firefighters arrived and surveyed the area seeing the same, no flames or smoke.

It was eventually agreed the caller’s perspective of the building placed evening’s fiery sunset behind it, giving the appearance of flames coming from the top of the building.
