Fire in field off Grandview Road brings smoke to north Ferndale

Whatcom County Fire District 7 units were dispatched just before 1pm to a grass fire on what appeared to be a recently cut hay field.

Witnesses at the scene said the fire burned about 10 acres in a field north of Grandview Road between Blaine and Kickerville Roads. It appeared to be a hay field that had been recently cut. It was a very smoky fire and winds eventually pointed the smoke toward north Ferndale.

Additional manpower and water were requested by fire units on the scene around 2pm. According to witnesses, the fire appeared to be under control and smoldering shortly after.
