Both lanes of northbound I-5 were blocked for over 2 hours due to a 3-vehicle crash after 2pm this afternoon.
According to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) press memo, a silver 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Kayleigh Thomas, age 31, of Lynden, was northbound on I-5 at milepost 236 when it struck a deer and stopped in the left lane.
A silver 2010 Toyota Prius driven by Jeremy Permen, age 34, of Ferndale, stopped behind the Mitsubishi in the left lane.
A red 2005 Volvo semi truck trailer driven by Valery Kalashnikov, age 63, of Bellevue, was also traveling northbound in the right lane. WSP investigators say the semi truck changed lanes into the left lane to avoid slowing traffic in the right lane and struck the Toyota, pushing it into the Mitsubishi.

Click for more informationDelton Walter, age 73, of Blaine, was a passenger in Permen’s vehicle. He did not survive the crash according to WSP.
Permen was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.
Thomas and Kalashnikov were not injured.
Drugs and/or alcohol were not considered involved in the cause of the crash. As of 8pm, the cause of the crash and any charges remained under investigation.
